This past week I was in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. While there I took tours of the battlefield and learned of the history that took place there. Hearing of the brutal fighting made me realize how I lucky I am. I now see that I take my life style for granted. One particular story I heard about Jennie Wade will stay with me. Jennie Wade was the only civilian killed in the battle of Gettysburg. She was in her sister's kitchen when a sharp shooter's bullet came through the door and killed her. I honestly can not imagine what it would be like to be murdered in the home of myself or someone very close to me. Yet it happens everyday even now, not just in rougher areas but everywhere. Now whenever I think of the tragic tale of Jennie Wade I will be reminded that life is a gift and you never know when you will lose it.
